Love poem

Flirtation
After all, there’s no need
to say anything

at first. An orange, peeled
and quartered, flares

like a tulip on a wedgewood plate
Anything can happen.

Outside the sun
has rolled up her rugs

and night strewn salt
across the sky. My heart

is humming a tune
I haven’t heard in years!

Quiet’s cool flesh—
let’s sniff and eat it.

There are ways
to make of the moment

a topiary
so the pleasure’s in

walking through.

Sonnet: I Thank You
I thank you, kind and best beloved friend,
With the same thanks one murmurs to a sister,
When, for some gentle favor, he hath kissed her,
Less for the gifts than for the love you send,
Less for the flowers, than what the flowers convey;
If I, indeed, divine their meaning truly,
And not unto myself ascribe, unduly,
Things which you neither meant nor wished to say,
Oh! tell me, is the hope then all misplaced?
And am I flattered by my own affection?
But in your beauteous gift, methought I traced
Something above a short-lived predilection,
And which, for that I know no dearer name,
I designate as love, without love’s flame.

Love and Friendship
Love is like the wild rose-briar,
Friendship like the holly-tree—
The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms
But which will bloom most constantly?

The wild rose-briar is sweet in spring,
Its summer blossoms scent the air;
Yet wait till winter comes again
And who will call the wild-briar fair?

Then scorn the silly rose-wreath now
And deck thee with the holly’s sheen,
That when December blights thy brow
He still may leave thy garland green.

A Safe Place

Summer.
I walk hand in hand with my boyfriend,
The leaves of the trees rustle as a breeze gently passes through.
Young children play in the sand and chase each other on the grass.
We share a kiss as we stand on the boardwalk.
I return my gaze to the clear water
And the fish swimming gracefully beneath me.
All is good and all is calm here.
The sun shines brightly,
A safe place.

Autumn.
I run and I run,
My lungs burn.
I collapse on the soft cool sand,
The water hitting my knees as a wave crashes against the shore.
The rain falls around me as I look up at the sky and cry.
My world shatters around me.
A heart-wrenching scream escapes me.
I grip the sand for dear life.
My heart had been ripped from my chest,
My trust shattered.
Never again will I trust.
I become tired as the last tears hit the sand.
I take a breath and look around at this place.
A safe place.

Winter.
Trust slowly rebuilding with a new shoulder to lean on.
I had fallen for him,
He had fallen for me.
We walk on ice,
Throwing snow at each other.
We walk onto the ice covered boardwalk.
I slip,
He steals a kiss.
My trust is growing.
He is now my rock.
The frigid air hits my face,
I can practically taste the winter.
We fool around,
We laugh.
I smile and look around,
Oh so grateful for this place.
A safe place.

Spring.
I sit with my dog at the waterfront, sand litters his muzzle.
The snow and ice have finally gone, and spring is starting to show.
The shells and rocks are scattered among the shore.
I look out at the clear water,
A cool breeze blows my hair in my face.
I listen to the water as it gently splashes against the shore.
It's peaceful here.
Even through the gentle breeze,
The sun warms the back of my neck.
All is good again.
All life is at its calmest in this place,
This little piece of Heaven on Earth.
A safe place.

Valentine
Cherry plums suck a week’s soak,
overnight they explode into the scenery of before
your touch. The curtains open on the end of our past.
Pink trumpets on the vines bare to the hummingbirds.
Butterflies unclasp from the purse of their couplings, they
light and open on the doubled hands of eucalyptus fronds.
They sip from the pistils for seven generations that bear
them through another tongue as the first year of our
punishing mathematic begins clicking the calendar
forward. They land like seasoned rocks on the
decks of the cliffs. They take another turn
on the spiral of life where the blossoms
blush & pale in a day of dirty dawn
where the ghost of you webs
your limbs through branches
of cherry plum. Rare bird,
extinct color, you stay in
my dreams in x-ray. In
rerun, the bone of you
stripping sweethearts
folds and layers the
shedding petals of
my grief into a
decayed holo-
gram—my
for ever
empty
art.

I Love You
I love your lips when they’re wet with wine
And red with a wild desire;
I love your eyes when the lovelight lies
Lit with a passionate fire.
I love your arms when the warm white flesh
Touches mine in a fond embrace;
I love your hair when the strands enmesh
Your kisses against my face.

Not for me the cold, calm kiss
Of a virgin’s bloodless love;
Not for me the saint’s white bliss,
Nor the heart of a spotless dove.
But give me the love that so freely gives
And laughs at the whole world’s blame,
With your body so young and warm in my arms,
It sets my poor heart aflame.

So kiss me sweet with your warm wet mouth,
Still fragrant with ruby wine,
And say with a fervor born of the South
That your body and soul are mine.
Clasp me close in your warm young arms,
While the pale stars shine above,
And we’ll live our whole young lives away
In the joys of a living love.

To My Dear and Loving Husband
If ever two were one, then surely we.
If ever man were loved by wife, then thee.
If ever wife was happy in a man,
Compare with me, ye women, if you can.
I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold,
Or all the riches that the East doth hold.
My love is such that rivers cannot quench,
Nor ought but love from thee give recompense.
Thy love is such I can no way repay;
The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray.
Then while we live, in love let’s so persever,
That when we live no more, we may live ever.

Poem About Needing The Lord

Whispers Of The Lord

© Shannon Tackett
Published on March 2015
The Lord whispered to me, "I love you so,"
"Come follow me, my child, high places we will go."
The Lord knelt beside me at an altar in prayer,
He wiped my tears and took away my despair.
"Come follow me, my child," the Lord whispered to me,
"There will be no more pain, but oh so much to gain."
He said, "I forgive you now for all you've done,"
Now it's time to receive the love of God's only son."
His love was so warm, so bright and so true,
I could not believe my soul he had renewed,
He repaired my soul from the inside out.
It was then and only then I knew what love was about.
The cleansing power that fell over me,
Was the love of the Lord as he carried me.
"Come follow me, my child," the Lord whispered to me,
"In that sweet holy land someday you will be.
You will see the Lord's face at those big pearly gates,
Where loved ones embrace and angels await.
Come follow me, my child," the Lord whispered to me,
"I will love you always, your protector I'll be."

When God created you
He knew what he would see
Someone that wasn't perfect
Or in heaven you would be.

He put you here on earth
To lead this life you live
Learning as you go
Giving what you can give.

He knew that you would stumble
And sometimes even fall
He knew that you would suffer
And in Jesus Christ you'd call.

Mistakes and bad decisions
He knew that you would make
To live and learn from them
Sometimes more than you can take.

He's had a plan for you
From the very first day
Frustrating times will be
But soon you'll see his way.

Love, hope, and faith
He'll give this all to you
Patience please my friend
How only if you knew.

The love you have inside you
All the good that you do
This does not go unnoticed
And he shall see it too.

He'll carry you if he needs to
And hold you when you pray
He knows the pain you carry
Each and every day.

What's brought you to your knees
Some gave up on you
God will only keep around
The ones that see it through.

One day you will see
What I've been telling you
The love that he's been saving
He created just for you.

Poem Thanking God for What He's Done

My Protector

© Julie Hird
Published on November 2010
You are my protector
You are my strength
You are my light in my darkness, and my friend till the very end

You do not judge me
You never let me down
When I fall, you reach out your hand, and you lift me up to higher ground

You've opened my heart
and taught me to love once more
When I cry, I know you have broken through
Because all my tears are for you
You have made me, made me feel, and made me care
for your salvation has brought me here

I just want to say thank you for what you've done, because I know there is still more to come
What more do I need, for I have you
You are my protector
and I love you.

Secret Of Happiness

Published on December 2008
when sadness fills your heart
when tears make you fall apart
when its gloomy all around
when you hear a silent killing sound
when love loses its meaning
when you always end up screaming
when hope is lost and faith is shattered
when you have lost every battle that mattered
that is gifted time in life
cause god is with you when you struggle and strife
don't let it go for there's much you may learn
cause happiness is gained only when you yearn
this dark night will soon end in day
we will laugh again and play
spring will come very soon
our fate will again shine like moon
hopes dashed to ground will again be honored and crowned
desire left alone will never be drowned
the dazzling light from above will fall on us
it will Begin the process of all sorrow minus and all joys plus
HE'LL COME WITH HIS RADHA AND HIS FLUTE
WILL SAY TO YOUR HOPE TO YOUR FAITH
A BIG BIG SALUTE
He'll say life is waiting for you
angels and love is in your crew
NOW DON'T EVER SHED A SINGLE TEAR
CAUSE I'LL BE ALWAYS THERE

Poem About God Always Being There
I'm Your Friend No Matter What

I have been with you all your life. . .
I have guided you through all your mountains and valleys.
The times you were crying,
I made you bloom, my flower.
When you thought you were alone,
I was those footprints in the sand.
I gave you wings so you could fly.
I was the one that took you up so high.
When you felt that lift my child,
that was I; that's why today you feel so free.
I am God, I am your friend no matter what.

Feelings Hidden

Published on February 2011
I'm crushed, I'm broken,
I'm confused by the word you've spoken
I run to the shelter of a friend
who truly is a helping hand.

I'm torn, I'm scared,
I fear of what could happen
I grab onto the outstretched arms
Comforting me more than words can tell.

I'm empty, I'm lonely,
I only want a place of belonging
I reach and touch the hymn so vibrant
Healing my broken heart.

I'm hurt, I'm bleeding,
These feelings I hold so dear inside
I reach out yet again to this loving hand
Guiding me to the place of Redemption
No longer were my feelings hidden

Poem Asking God to Grant Us Our Needs

My Personal Prayer

God, grant me the strength to handle life's challenges,
In order to overcome these life long obstacles.
God, grant me the courage to stand up for what I believe in,
In order to express my true opinions without fear.
God, grant me the answers to my questions,
In order to find some understanding.
God, grant me the piece of mind I so desperately need,
In order to remain sane in this inside universe.
God, grant me the patience I thought I once had,
In order to with stand everything thrown to me.
God, grant me the guidance to be able to succeed,
In order to be whatever it is I want to be.
God, I need you now and forever, please help me.

Healing Power Of Love And Forgiveness

This Pain

Published on October 12, 2016
This pain that I feel cuts through me like steel.
It's like an open wound that just won't heal.
They say that time is the key that turns the lock and sets you free,
But why, God? Why, is this happening to me?

Through the wind he whispers to me:
Be patient, my child, and you will see.
The lessons learned will set you free.
Feel my love and serenity,
And I will guide you through this troubled sea.
Fill your heart with love and forgiveness,
And it is then you will find that golden key
That turns the lock and sets you free.

Poem About God Giving Us What We Need

God's Gift

© Lois Parry
Published on February 28, 2016
God asked me what I wanted in life.

I said to him,

I want someone bold and brave and handsome,
Someone big and strong,
Someone who will protect me no matter what,
Love me no matter what.

Someone who I can tell my secrets,
Someone who will keep my promises,
Someone who will stay with me always.

I want someone who gives warm hugs,
Someone who makes me laugh,
Someone I trust with my life.

Someone who is always happy to see me,
Someone eager to please me,
Someone who is easily pleased.

I want someone to take me to the ends of the earth and back,
Someone who will conquer any obstacle for me,
Someone whom I can grow old with.

I want someone, a best friend of such,
Someone to lean on,
A shoulder to cry on.

Someone who will misbehave,
Someone with a wild heart,
But someone who will always come back to me.

And so God gave me a horse.

Poem From A Dying Soldier

The Last Letter

© James Clark Jr
Published on October 2012
A tear ran down her cheek
As she read the words he wrote
His dad sat at the table
With a lump in his throat
The letter was stained
With blood mixed with sand
It was a letter
From their son in a far off land
The letter said, Mom the pain I cannot stand
From the shrapnel that ripped though this young man
I feel the pain so badly
It makes me scream and cry
I know I will not see you
I know that I will die
So I just wanted to say
Before God calls me home
Don't worry about me anymore
No, I am not alone
I know that there will be days
That you both sit and cry
I know there will be days
That you wonder why
The reason is Mom
This is what I signed up to do
So that our country can stay free and true
Well, I will go now
Things are starting to fade
No, I am not alone, Mom, nor am I afraid
But before God calls me home there is something
I must say
I thought of you all each and every day
The medic, he is trying to keep me alive and ease my pain
But I must go now
It is time, God, he says so
I love you all and miss you
This is the last letter
The last one I have write.
